Aerial > Aerial video > Herrington Country Park, Sunderland, UK
Filmed : July, 2016
Duration : 5 minutes, 48 seconds
My first attempt at aerial photography, using a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced Quadcopter, or drone, as it is more commonly known. Herrington Country Park is local to me, so I thought it would be an ideal place to get to grips with my new hobby. especially as this location is very open, without structures that I would probably crash the drone into!
In the 19th century, the Durham Coalfield began to take shape, and a number of collieries were established in the area, including one in New Herrington. Today, the former colliery site is the Herrington Country Park which plays host to the Durham County Show and the North East Motor Show. On 7 and 8 May 2005, Radio 1's Big Weekend was staged on the Herrington Country Park site. Notable artists who performed that year include Foo Fighters, Kasabian and The Black Eyed Peas. On 16 June 2012, the Olympic Torch came through the park and Blue Peter was screened live from the event.
This video gives you panoramic views across the park, including some of the man made ponds and waterways, as well the many paths around it. The Mackem Stone Henge sits on a small hill at the back of the park and this gets special attention as I perform a few fly-over's as a point of interest. Now that my first flight is under my belt I can become more adventurous during my next flights, in theory, that is!
